Shakespeare Reading Club: “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”- Tuesday, March 11 from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (Community room)

Hagaman’s Shakespeare Reading Club will again meet to discuss The Two Gentlemen of Verona. To join the discussion, check out a copy at Main Circulation and contact Chris Hemingway, Reference Librarian & group facilitator, directly at either 203-468-3890 or [email protected].

Believed to be one of Shakespeare’s earliest plays, written between 1589 and 1593, The Two Gentlemen of Verona explores timeless themes such as friendship, infidelity, love’s foolishness, and the conflict between love and loyalty. It’s a play where the heroine dresses as a boy for the first time—an early glimpse into the dramatic tropes Shakespeare would later perfect. One of the true highlights of this play? The hilarious Launce and his dog Crab, who’s earned the title of “the most scene-stealing non-speaking role in the canon”!

Extra parking for evening and weekend library events is available in the East Haven Town Hall parking lot on 250 Main Street (across the street from the library), in the KeyBank parking lot next to the library (after 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays and after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays) and in the Stop and Shop lot behind the library, accessible from Messina Drive.
