Washington’s Favorite, The Nation’s Guest: Songs of Lafayette’s Time in America-Performed by Rick Spencer & Dawn Indermuehle-Wednesday, August 7 at 6:30 p.m. (Outside on the Library’s Front Lawn-In the Case of Rain DeMayo room)

This special concert is a prelude to a celebration of the Bicentennial of Marquis de Lafayette’s Tour of Connecticut in 1824! Marquis de Lafayette toured through East Haven on August 21 of 1824. The library will have several special events planned for that day.

In 1824 the Marquis de Lafayette returned to tour the nation he had fought years before to establish.  He received a celebrity’s welcome, visited all 24 states and was honored as a surviving hero of the Revolutionary War.  This concert includes songs that were popular during Lafayette’s participation in our war for freedom as well songs composed to celebrate his triumphant return in 1824.

Rick Spencer and Dawn Indermuehle develop and present a series of theme-based music and history programs. They present songs that give cultural insight into interesting times, places and events in American history.  Rick and Dawn carefully craft their vocals and accompaniment to sound as true to a song’s era or style as possible.  Their vast repertoire includes music from the Colonial era to the present day.  Rick and Dawn use these songs to illustrate the evolution of our nation’s culture and history in an informative and entertaining way.

This concert is free and open to everyone. The event will be held on the library’s front lawn weather permitting. In the case of rain, the concert will be held in the library’s DeMayo room. Please register by calling the library at (203) 468-3890 or send an email to Cynthia at: cgwiazda@hagamanlibrary.org.
