Friends of the Library Membership Brochure

In June of 2010 the Friends of the East Haven Hagaman Library won the Friends of Connecticut Libraries group award for outstanding effort in 2010.

The original Friends group was established back in 1983 and over the past ten years the group has grown to over 100 members. The purpose of the Friends of the East Haven Hagaman Library is to provide the library with strong support and to work continuously toward improving the town’s library facility and services.

In order to accomplish its goals, The Friends create programs and events to educate the East Haven community about the library and all it has to offer. Programs have included art appreciation lectures, theater programs, author book signings, and guest speakers on various topics. The group holds an annual book sale at the East Haven fall festival every year. In 2011 they raised over $1200 from the book sale. Some other very successful fundraisers include Appraisal fairs, Fashion Shows, Military Whist Parties, and Book and Bake Sales, just to name a few.

The library has been able to provide the community with a wireless network that can be hooked into throughout the library building, electronic books such as the Amazon Kindle, Apple iPads, Laptops, Blue-ray Discs as well as special programs and concerts. This past fall, Friends group funding allowed the library to purchase an Early Literacy Station, a new educational tool that allows children ages two to 10 to play learning games in both English and Spanish.

The Friends are always looking for new members to help with programs, fundraising and publicity. Join the Friends of the East Haven Hagaman Library today and you will not only have fun and meet new people but you will be helping to ensure that the library continues to be the center of the East Haven community with current technologies, great cultural events, enriching programs and an outstanding collection of materials.
