Shakespeare Reading Club: “Love’s Labour’s Lost” Tuesday, January 21 at 6:30 p.m. (Community room)
Hagaman’s Shakespeare Club is starting the New Year with a discussion of “Love’s Labour’s Lost.” To participate, contact Chris Hemingway, Reference Librarian, at 203-468-3890 or [email protected].
This early Shakespearean comedy, likely written in the mid-1590s for Queen Elizabeth I, follows the King of Navarre and his friends who vow to avoid women for three years to focus on study. However, they fall for the Princess of France and her ladies, breaking their oath. The play ends unusually for a comedy, with the Princess’s father’s death and delayed weddings. Key themes include love, desire, and the conflict between reality and fantasy.
Extra parking is available in the Stop and Shop lot behind the library, accessible from Messina Drive.
